Today, my dad has his check up with Louisiana about his Whipple surgery and next steps. We were nervous that my dad was going to be taking on a new tough journey. He got some great news though. It turns out that the surgeon did not only get the pancreatic tumor, the tumors on is lymph nodes but also 90% of the tumors on his liver!! The doctor went on to say that the 10% that were left are so microscopic that if they did a scan of them the machine wouldn't even pick them up!! The next steps for him, is to continue getting his monthly shots (which may be changed to a less intense treatment) and then either continue on his Afinator or change to a chemo pill. From what I understand, this is will be discussed a little later once they get the biopsies back from the liver. In addition to this, blood drawn every 3 months and CT scans every 6 months. I am sure him and my mom are looking forward to not being in a hospital so frequently.
He was going in today thinking he still had multiple tumors on the liver and that the doctor was going to do a very intensive next step but this surprised us. Obviously, he still has cancer but I don't think we could have gotten better news based on his circumstances before the whipple. The surgeon also said that he will have cancer for the rest of his life but he will live a long time and it won't be the cancer that kills him. (Woo Woo!! But don't like thinking of that day..)
I included this video because it has become very special to my husband and I. It is not only a beautiful song but the singer is from Hawaii where my husband went to college and proposed to me. I've been playing this song to my daughter a lot lately because of some of the lyrics. Those lyrics have really touched my heart lately with my dad...so I had to share it.
I have continued to pray and dream of my dad getting better..
(lyric):“And the dream that you dreamed of Dreams really do come true”
My dad's community (friends, family, etc.) has made such a great impact on him and my family
(lyric):“I see friends shaking hands saying “How do you do?” They’re really saying “I love you”
And finally, because of my daughter and his new granddaughter, I've been playing his videos on this site to her so she can hear his voice and see his face until he is able to visit..
(lyric):"I hear babies cry and I watch them grow. They’ll learn much more than we’ll know"
I love you dad! So glad that our dreams and prayers are coming true. You continue to amaze me and I can't wait to see you when you are feeling better.
Thank you friends and family! You are the BEST!
